Kitteh food

So... I wasn't sure what to blog about today, so I decided to blog about what I feed my kittehs and what I plan on STARTING to feed them! This will probably be a boring post for most, but hey it's a post nonetheless! ;-P What I'm feeding Winston and Merlin now is quite simple; plain jane cheap-o dry food! I can't remember exactly what brand I use, but trust me it's the CHEAP-O kind! LOL! Well, after doing some research online, I found out that this is horribly HORRIBLE for kitties! Apparently it has more grain and meat by-products than the stuff they need! And apparently ALSO, it's best to give them some kind of wet food with this dry food because it definitely has more meat and more of the good stuff!

So, in lieu of that, I've decided that I'm going to change my kitty's diets and buy them the better stuff, because I think they deserve it! I'm sure buying the cheap-o stuff will be good when times are tight, but it's not good ALL the time! They need some substance!! So this is the brand I've decided on--It's called Wellness CORE (pictured right, of course!)... Not only is it for adults, but it's also for kittens as young as 1 month old! It has NO grains (they don't need them!) and plenty of meat, which is basically all they need! I will also be feeding them some wet food a few times a week, but I'm not sure which kind to get them yet. The lady I'm getting Ruby from suggested Friskies, which she calls "junk meat," but apparently they like it! So maybe I'll go for that or maybe I'll decide on a different wet food, but those kittehs are gonna be eating GOOD now! :) I'll also incorporate some goat's milk into their diet every now and again! And I can be happy and feel safe in knowing my kittehs will be healthy and they'll be living with me for a VERY long time! :-D

  1. Isn't it crazy to find out that stuff that is MARKETED to your pet isn't even good for them? It's the same with rats. The seed mixes have alot of stuff that rats won't even eat... and some that they can't digest if they do eat it!

Good for you for changing over to the good stuff. I wish I could afford to buy the real good dog food for the rats... it's $35 for a bag that would last them like two weeks. :-[ Eeek.

  2. Thanks Tans! I know it's CRAZY that they sell stuff like that! But I mean I've had cats that lived 10+ years and lived off of that, so I guess it doesn't really kill them, just isn't the HEALTHIEST! And I want my kittehs to be healthy! :) And like I said.. I definitely won't be able to afford that stuff ALL the time, but maybe it'll be something good to mix in or something! The one I have pictured above is around $35 for a 12-lb bag I think. I'm gonna make that sucka last too! LOL...

I didn't know rats ate dog food! Very interesting! Bet that's a nice treat for them.. or is the seed mix the treat?! ;)

  3. Well, the dog food is suppose to be their staple diet (or lab blocks if you can get the good stuff, not the store kind) and then there is a mix that I make for them out of stuff you can buy in the bulk section at the grocery store that is their daily treat. And then of course fresh fruits and veggies are good treats too. :)

I spoil my babies sometimes and give them bits of my food when I don't finish it too. ;) Not real often though cuz I don't want them to get sick.

  4. Heck it sounds like you're spoiling them all the way around! ;) That's a lot of effort to go through! And then to clean their cage! Wowzers!! Go Tansy!!! :D
