Why HELLO there!

Whew! Sorry for my absence the past several days! This weekend, I spent most of my time with Ruby trying to get her attached to me and helping her to feel at home! :) Thankfully, all my effort and hard work PAID OFF! :D
Here's the story...

Gene and I left right after we got off work at 11a on Friday and went straight to Emory, TX, to pick up Ms. Ruby. I paid the lady (yes I paid for a cat!), and she gave me a small scratching post made of wood and rope that her husband made! I thought that was such a cool gift, and esp. cool that this scratchy post can lay down on the ground! She also gave me some of the tap water from her house (to add to the water I have so she won't have TOO much change at once) and a lil baggy of the food she's been feeding Ruby! So I was definitely well-prepared! We got Ruby in her cage and she was meowyelling like CRAZY! She did NOT want to be in there! Gene took her out a couple of times and cuddled her, but of course she didn't want to do that either! Ruby's mom was looking at her all worried! It was kind of sad, but we had to do it! One of the other adult cats voluntarily got in the cage when Gene was holding Ruby! LOL Like she straight-up walked in there and lay down like, "Okay you can take me instead!" It was really cute! So, after all that, we said our goodbyes and went on our way! Ruby didn't like the car ride any more than she did being in the cage in the house! I ended up letting her get out of the cage because she was biting the bars on the cage door and doing it pretty rough, and I didn't want her to hurt herself!!! She still meowed like crazy, but ended up calming down after a while. Poor baby... you could tell she was so scared! :(

When we got home, I -IMMEDIATELY- took her into the spare bedroom a.k.a. the "cat room" (which is also our office/tool room lol) and let her out of the cage. Of course, she ran away pretty quick and started exploring the room. She wouldn't let me pet her unless it was on her back. My hand coming at her face was just too scary for her at that point... Gene came in and started petting her too (when he could get her to come out of hiding) and ended up finding her "purr spot"... Which is at the base of her tail! When you scratch or pet there, she purrs EXTREMELY loud and if you do it long enough, she'll roll over on her back and let you rub her belly! :) This was definitely an EXCELLENT discovery about her and it helped SO much!
Not long after we had gotten home and all that, I had to put her back in her cage and send her off to the vet for her "new kitten exam" at 3:30. That appointment went quite well! The people at the vet said she was very beautiful and she came out with a CLEAN bill of health! So happy for that! :) Mrs. Grace (the lady who sold me Ruby) definitely takes GREAT care of her foldies! ;-D I am going to take Ruby back to the vet in 2-3 weeks for a booster/rabies shot that she hasn't yet received. Thankfully, the "new kitten exam" was FREE, which I totally wasn't expecting!!
After the vet, we went home and I spent the rest of that evening in "the room" with Ruby... Petting her every chance I can get and giving her some catnip so she'd play and be a little more relaxed! Catnip has definitely been my saving grace the past several days! She LOVES it! She'll eat it like it's prime rib or fresh tuna or something!!! LOVES it! I was a little scared, at first, that she was just going to be a wild cat and she wouldn't even want to be near us! :-/ I had actually found out, from Mrs. Grace, that Scottish Folds aren't "normally" lap cats. I TOTALLY did not know that! Makes me wonder why that's so, but I'm still going to put my best effort forward in getting her to be a cuddle buddy! :) She's doing good so far!

And in doing good, I mean that she'll even jump on the couch with me and lay beside me! She'll even jump in my lap FIRST and THEN go over and lay beside me! :)) Does my heart good, lemme tell ya!

So, I know it seemed like I was going to give you a day-by-day analysis of what's been going on, but I think this blog is already long enough! ;) Again, sorry for the delay! I'll try to do better! But weekends are usually probably going to be pretty dead for me blog-wise! We'll see though!

Y'all come back now, ya hear?! ;-P
